Today I am excited to share about a baby product I am loving - the Dock-A-Tot! Life as a mom of two looks quite a bit different than it did when I just had Logan to care for, and my needs have changed adding little Josephine into the mix of life. While I wish I had unlimited time to hold, rock or sit with her, sometimes that just isn't practical when breakfast needs to be made, or we are all running around getting ready to quickly head out the door. Enter Dock-A-Tot. It has made naps, lounging and playing such a breeze, and allowed for a consistent environment for Josephine to nap in, even when we are out of the house.
Handmade in Europe, the DockATot is a multifunctional, portable baby, well, dock! Designed and with care and love in Sweden., it is an ideal place for baby to rest, play, lounge or snuggle. It is the ultimate definition of cozy, while still being safe and tested for breathabillity, its cocoon like-design sits snugly in a beautiful cover made of 100% cotton (that is thankfully machine washable - hello practical!). It has handles that make taking it from place to place a breeze, giving your baby a comfortable, safe place to rest, both in and away from home. Lastly, it comes in two sizes - Grand and Deluxe that can be used from birth all the way to three years of age. I love that this product has longevity and adapts to life as your baby grows into a toddler.
I learned quickly as a first time mom with Logan that babies looooove to be held. Even while sleeping they rest best when they feel safe and surrounded. The DockATot's sides provide this feeling for baby, allowing them to rest and settle calmly in "cocoon of comfort" per say. I don't think you can recreate this environment up to safety standards in any other way.
I mentioned this above, but life is just different with two children. When we first got home, I realized I needed somewhere to set Josephine while getting ready in the morning, or while doing an activity with Logan. I didn't want to just put her in her crib all the time, especially if it was part of her awake time. After receiving my Deluxe DockATot in the mail I knew I had found the perfect thing. Josie now had a place to lay while Logan and I played in the living room, or she could easily lounge or nap on my bed while I got dressed and ready for the day.
First of all, I appreciate how practical it is. We live in a smaller space, so I don't like keeping items around that have only a single use. So far I have used this for naps at home, naps at my parents house, and for lounging. Josie is a bit young to use it for tummy time yet, but as soon as she is ready, I will use it for that as well (you can see how to position baby safely, here). It is also the perfect option for families who co-sleep, because baby can be within arms reach, yet out harms way, giving you both peace of mind having your little one close throughout the night. In addition to being convenient, the cover is easily interchangeable, which makes cleaning it after an accident a simple task.
Secondly, I love that it is portable. Because we can take it everywhere and anywhere I find myself packing it for many occasions. It can be used for naps away from home, and I am really excited to put it to good use next month when Josephine joins us for her very first camping trip! She can sleep next to us in the tent (the low sides make nighttime nursing easy!) and I know she will have a clean and comfortable place to nap when we are down at the beach. I love taking my kids lots of places, and being able to visit friends often throughout the week. The Dock-A-Tot has made it even easier to do so!
Having a place for Josie to be while Logan plays nearby has been so helpful for their bonding. He loves including her in his activities (like stacking his train tracks around her, and measuring her...ha),and frequently stops in for a hug or kiss. The bond between siblings really is something extra special.
Lastly, I enjoy how beautifully and carefully designed it is. I currently have the Pristine White and "Lighter Shade of Pale" covers, and they are both soft and very high quality. I don't love items that scream "baby" when you look at them, but always try to find things that fit well within the tone and ascetic of our home. The florals on the "Lighter Shade of Pale" cover are even more stunning in person, and honestly makes this an item I hope I can preserve to pass down to my grandbabies one day. The handle placements, how easy it is to change covers, and cozy design really point back to the fact that this item was designed and manufactured with attention to detail and care. With Logan, I had many mass produced products that clearly were made cheaply and didn't last how I hoped they would. This lead me to shopping small more often than not, and I think Dock-A-Tot fits right along those lines.
I wish I would have had one when Logan was Josephine's age, because I know I would have put it to good use. No matter your lifestyle, number of kids, or style of parenting, Dock-A-Tot's versatility earns it a place in any home. If you are looking for something for your newborn, or considering various travel bed options, I encourage you to give Dock-A-Tot a try. I know you will be satisfied and pleasantly surprised how often you reach for it.
XO, B
